Whether you're in it for the chicks, the music, the ballgame, or Sparky the bartender's leather pants, pool halls are really what you make them.

'Where everybody knows your name'

You want: a relaxing vibe, an inclusive crowd that's not afraid to get really, really drunk, a dimly lit interior, dirty floors and "that smell."

2.

Barney's Beanery--West Hollywood

LA often seems to think that nothing gets better with age. But LA's third-oldest restaurant retains a classic, rowdy Hollywood charm.

3.

The Spotlight Club

Take one step inside Spotlight—LA's oldest gay bar —and it's easy to understand why it's known as Hollywood's gay version of Cheers.

'Baby let me show you how to move this'

If you're the type who needs to suffer their losses in the company of pumping music and gyrating bodies, these places are for you. Pool halls turned dance halls can cure any Eight-ball overdose. You want: people watching, celeb sightings, lots of sequins, signature drinks, eye candy galore, up-scale surroundings

1.

MJ's

Gays, leave your Graces at home. MJ's is an unapologetic guy-for-guy haunt whose intentions (hooking up, of course) are clear (but not actually all that gross).

2.

Lucky Strike Lanes

Where else can you snack on gourmet comfort food, sip a cocktail and bowl a strike next to Paris Hilton?

3.

The Short Stop

There's no sign out front (unless you count the one that says "Cocktails") but that hasn't stopped anyone with a cool haircut and at least one item of vintage on their person from finding this former cop hangout.

'I got the phat one'

If you're looking to score off the pool table as well, these singles joints just might do the trick. You want: unmarried specimens in abundance

1.

Busby’s Hollywood

Busby's Hollywood has a bit of a Superman complex. By most weekdays it's a mild-mannered sports bar fit with 45 HD-TVs and a plentiful menu of heart-clogging fare. But on nights falling between Thursday and Saturday, it transforms itself into a super-powered all-in-one mega-club.

2.

Big Wangs

With pool tables, a digital jukebox, plasma TVs perched everywhere and the mouth-watering signature buffalo wings, this barn-themed bar is a haven for the jaded and starved.

3.

Q's Billiards--Santa Monica

Trendy patrons at this bar outdo themselves trying to score at pool and/or scoring digits.

'ESPN or bust'

Where would billiards be without over-sized HD TVs blaring every sporting event imaginable? ADD culprits will have a hay-day with these pool halls. You want: obnoxious TV screens in every nook and cranny, a crowd who can handle a defeated Dodger fan after 18 beers, bartenders who are quick on the uptake

1.

Hollywood Billiards

The cornucopia of billiard fun

2.

Yankee Doodles--Santa Monica

With all the TV screens and the mirrored walls, it's surprising patrons don't have seizures upon entering this sports bar. It's like the Best Buy television section coupled with a sport fanatic's funhouse.

Looking for pool halls in the 818....thanks!!
