BoHo Chic: Thrift Store Décor and Fancy Brews on Tap

Do you like going to see movies at the Arclight, but are sick of actually having to eat at the Arlight? Us too. That's why we breathed a sigh of relief and anticipation (yes, both at once) when Chef Andre Guerrero's new restaurant BoHo opened in the old Charcaol location between Amoeba and Arclight (Guerrero is also the chef at Oinkster and Max).

Spawned behind the designer of Kitchen 24 on Cahuenga, Kristofer Keith of Spacecraft, the new thrift store tchochke-strewn gastropub offers fancy bar foods with quick service just in time for you to make your screening.

We're not talking wings and dip, though. The farro salad with parsley, cucumber, tomato, onion, olives, mint and lemon is tart and crisp, while the three changing "market fresh" veggie options include choices like sautéed kale, and raotsted beets with goat cheese and lemon-onion confit.

There are also eleven inventive pizzas including the one with pulled pork, and another with baked fennel, gruyere and bacon. The "small plates" are indeed pretty small, even for their price, but definitely inventive.

The "Bowl O'Green" is pork chili with tomatillo, poblano chile, cactus and smoked mozzarella, while the deliciously dainty Fried Oyster "Po Boy" Sliders served on cheesy gougeres with tartar sauce, applewood bacon and arugula.

The BoHo (or big) Plates start with unsurprising options of a burger or pulled pork sandwich, but the Tasmanian salmon with sunchoke puree and a salsa verde and meyer lemon emulsion is unusual, as is the roasted oxtail. Desserts are a panoply of exotic enticements like the coconut rice pudding, zeppoli with lemon curd, and apple-sweet potato crisp.

The most impressive part of the menu, however, is the extensive beer list with reasonably priced artisanal drafts from all over the world. The restaurant will benefit more from its location than Guerrero's cooking, but it's still nice to have another dining option in the area.
