Fulfilled
(Eric Rosen / LA.COM)
Not far from Sprinkles , that bastion of cupcake capitalism, you'll find Fulfilled, an adorable new bakery accented with Japanese pop culture tchochkes and a huge crystal chandelier, run by the equally adorable Susumu Tsuchihashi . Though hailing from LA, Tsuchihashi drew from his Japanese heritage to open a new version of an imagawa-yaki (or ima, as he calls them) stand. Ima are waffle-like pastries traditionally filled with red azuki bean sweetened with mochi, but Tsuchihashi has created a whole menu of variations with tongue-in-cheek titles that take the classic street food to new places.

The Harajuku Monkey comes filled with banana and nutella, while the popular Karaoke Kitty bursts with strawberry, cream cheese and Ghirardelli white chocolate. The one with goat cheese, figs, honey, walnuts and cracked black pepper bears our favorite name though: the Honey Yakuza. Tsuchihashi has also innovated in another direction by creating several savory ima like the Spicy Samurai with chicken apple sausage, pepper jack cheese, green chili and fresh cilantro. The best part is that, though they are filling, ima are relatively low fat since they are baked and don't use oil. They also all cost under $4. Worried that you'll miss the celebrities still binging on cupcakes? Don't be. Chances are you'll see a few wander into Fulfilled after their tanning sessions at the next-door Portofino salon. You didn't hear it from us, but Paris Hilton and Zac Efron might just be snacking next to you.
