After ten years and eight hugely successful movies, the Harry Potter film franchise has taken its final bow. But anyone expecting the boy wizard to tuck away his magician's wand and slowly fade into oblivion clearly doesn't know Harry very well. He's a wizard after all! Don't they live forever?
Although the books and movies have run their course, Harry Potter and his fellow Hogwarts are probably more popular now than they've ever been. Which is why Universal Studios is building a brand new attraction, aptly titled "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter", in his very honor. The attraction will resemble a similar Harry Potter attraction that's already a huge hit at Universal Studios in Orlando. The Orlando version of "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter", which includes Potter-themed rides, restaurants and gift shops, has brought in an astounding 7 million customers in 2011, leading to a 36% increase in attendance. That being said, the powers at be are hoping to duplicate the success at Universal City, which is expected to open to the public in 2015.
With books, movies, and now theme parks added to his growing list of accomplishments, it seems like the only accolade Harry Potter has yet to receive is one of those golden statuettes handed out at the Kodak Theater each February. Hint. Hint. Hope you're listening Academy.
