The jury's still out on whether Lana Del Rey, the indie-pop star formerly known as Lizzy Grant, is talented enough to be deemed "the next big thing", or is merely just a fad in passing. Sure the Internet hype-machine has been abuzz over Born to Die, her second studio album that was released to much fanfare last week. But for some reason Del Rey seemed to irritate a lot of people after appearing as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live. One such critic, NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams of all people, really laid it into Del Rey, calling her performance, "one of the worst outings in SNL history." Ouch! You know you've done something wrong when you've annoyed the venerable Mr. Williams. But Del Rey's fans have already spoken out on her behalf in the only way they know how—their pocketbooks. Next week Born to Die will debut at Number 2 on the Billboard 200 Chart, already having sold between 60,000 and 70,000 copies. So to celebrate the album's success, Del Rey will give an intimate performance next Tuesday at Amoeba Music in Hollywood. For Lana-ites (coined it!) everywhere, it may be one of the few chances you get to see her before she blows up like that other formerly disgraced SNL music guest, Ashlee Simpson. Err, maybe that's not the best comparison.
