You know the clothes: arty, Italian, retro-inspired (plus a handful of go-anywhere classics). But the store's more like a contemporary art gallery with mannequins visible through portholes in the floor, a stairway sprouting legs, and video screens displaying images and info on war and prisons.

The store, designed by Rem Koolhaas and Ole Scheeren, opened in 2004, giving Prada a total of three highly conceptual Epicenter stores worldwide. Downstairs holds the women's accessories, shoes and handbags and the dressing rooms, which frost over from clear to opaque at the touch of your hand. Up the wide staircase, the women's ready-to-wear area stands, and even further up, men pass through what looks like a metal detector to ogle fashion in an environment that looks like an airport. A whopping 24,000 square feet hold a larger Prada collection than was heretofore available in Los Angeles—and more celebs per square foot than any other Rodeo Drive boutique.—Laurie Pike
