Part world marketplace, part local chic, this boutique puts other so-called "eclectic" shops to shame.

When veteran wardrobe stylist Zoe Battles-Moore decided to open Ruby Jean, she wanted to gather funky styles and unique designers from around the globe and bring them, as she says, closer to home. The Moroccan-style store carries original pieces from local designers, like recycled knits from Josh and He Yang, and patchwork miniskirts from Jose Arellanes line, Exit 1. There are also lively African-inspired prints from Nieves Lavi; flirty, feminine skirts from German designer Heike Jarick; ombre dyed jersey dresses by Mara Hoffman; Picolina jogging suits embellished with sequined nightingale appliqus; preppy polos perked up with traditional Mexican embroidery from Rojas and Ciganas handmade, tie-dyed silks. The accessories seem like they were scooped up during various travels: one-of-a-kind stingray cuffs, belt buckles and scarves from Abu Gooby; Hasnaas rooster-feather earrings; found-object jewelry from the Brazilian line B&C; and Divine Tribe craftsman leather handbags. Valley shoppers often thank Battles-Moore for the ability to find worldly looks without crossing the 405.—Elisa Jacobs
