H.D. Buttercup sweetens up the old Helms Bakery Building with home furnishings and clothing.

The meticulously restored art deco building is the new home of this airy showroom, with 30-foot-high exposed beams and skylights creating a grand setting for customers to interact directly with manufacturers. More than 50 vendors in the 100,000-square-foot space sell everything from Turkish rugs to Asian antiques to minimalist modern designs. Alongside the larger furniture stops, vendors also offer estate jewelry, bath and body products and gifts for the home. H.D. Buttercup honors the building's history by housing a Helms Bakery Museum, complete with an original Helms delivery coach. Modern amenities in the massive complex include an Asian fusion restaurant, bar, sidewalk cafe and private event space. It's also in the process of doubling its space so stay tuned for more showrooms and a new restaurant. —Mai Dinh
