A fashion vacation at Melrose Place

Marni brings an Italian accent to the new cabal of designer stores in West Hollywood.

Among the designers making unstructured slouchiness look good are Consuelo Castiglioni, the designer for Marni. The vintage-inspired Marni line matches bright colors with neutrals and metallics. The shoes and accessories are a bit clunky, with platform wedgies and boho-chic necklaces defining the aesthetic, and the shop's sleek, bright interior is not quite as homey as some stores in this cozy neighborhood. But the European-feeling line evokes the breezy feel of a permanent vacation. The menswear is similarly anything-but-buttoned-down; the shirts, shirt-jacs, blazers and trousers are meant to be worn loose and preferably unironed.
