This Lower East Side favorite for "contemporized" vintage pieces now has a West Coast sister, which comes naturally considering the boutique's celebrity-adjacent pedigree.

Some Odd Rubies, like its former Los Feliz neighborhood (it recently relocated to 3rd Street), is close enough to Hollywood to appeal to those seeking a certain celebrity quotient, yet far enough to earn street cred with the savvy indie customer. The store's three owners certainly have celebrity connections: Summer Phoenix is Joaquin's sister and Casey Affleck's wife; Odessa Whitmire was once Ben Affleck's assistant and Matt Damon's girlfriend; and Ruby Canner is a childhood friend of the Phoenixes. But Some Odd Rubies' main draw is the dazzling vintage pieces, reworked to fit current styles and bodies, that are likely to call starlets and stylists out East. The boutique, which shares space with designer Monica Goretti's line, is modeled after a French boudoir. Cozy seating, vintage light fixtures and an enormous mirror welcome shoppers as they peruse through the bold printed dresses and figure-flattering tops. Aside from the vintage, Some Odd Rubies also carries pieces from designers Liz Mclean and Catherine Fulmer as well as jewelry from Anu, Tina Thor and Devon Leigh, among others. —Enid Portuguez
