Some of LA's best chocolate treats are tucked away in this small side-street shop with a blue-and-brown dcor made for lounging. Not all treats have to be taken home.

In business since 1950, Comparte's is best known for glace fruits. (Frank Sinatra bought them as gifts.) But after the incredibly young Jonathan Grahm took over as the chocolatier in 2003, the store became widely known for truffles—and a staff generous with samples. (In summer 2006, the shop's makeover brought even more chocolate: The color scheme mixes a pale blue with a brown so rich that even the inviting seating seems edible. Teas, tonics, hot cocoa and WiFi enhance the stay-awhile vibe.) The truffles come in more than 50 different varieties, including exotic flavors like passion fruit, jasmine tea, spicy chili, mango, cactus and Tahitian vanilla bean. Grahm's Love Nuts, roasted and covered in rich Venezuelan chocolate, are a house specialty favored by celebs like Nicolette Sheridan and Teri Hatcher. Those craving the chocolate-fruit thing may be tempted to blindly jump for the chocolate-covered strawberries (favored by Marcia Cross); back up and give the glac apricots a try.
