In a town where fashion icons are equated with Ugg boots and $100 T-shirts, this boutique harkens back to the classics, all while maintaining the LA-style mix of highbrow with low-key.

The Left Coast may have been the birthplace of designer-jean icons, but that doesn't mean classic style doesn't exist. Iconology strives for a new take on the term with cashmere tops by Luz & Patmos, sexy patent heels by Jill Stuart and popular denim cuts by Paige Premium and Habitual. The brainchild of former Women's Wear Daily editor Michelle Dalton Tyree and her sister, designer Jacqueline Dalton, the shop is modeled after a Parisian atelier and features elegant yet funky decorative touches. Refurbished Louis XVI Bergere chairs fill the room with a hot-pink glow, a wall of quotes contains nuggets from fashion plates like Diana Vreeland and Coco Chanel, and a palatial vintage birdcage stands at the entrance. Iconology stays true to its name by being one of three stores in LA to carry Karl Lagerfeld's new line as well as the place to find the latest designs by icons-in-the-making Behnaz Sarafpour and Zac Posen. There are also well-selected gifts like an Assouline hardcover book on Paris (FRANCE!) and DL & Co. candles as wide as a 45 RPM record. Tyree and Dalton plan to regularly honor local fashion notables at the store with events (they recently toasted former WWD West Coast Bureau Chief Rose Apodaca).
