X-LARGE delivers skateboarding and hip-hop styles that represent youth culture in LA.

When X-LARGE opened in 1991, its signature line of urban wear meant baggy jeans and oversized T-shirts. Now that the urban look is more about skinny jeans, fitted tees and sporty hoodies, the store is evolving as well by broadening its stock to include outside labels like RECON T-shirts. But shoppers can still find plenty of X-LARGE gear like baseball hats, watches and belts. Upstairs, skater girls can find clothing to help channel their inner pre-Harper's Bazaar-fashion-shoot Avril Lavigne. The walls are covered with graffiti murals and limited-edition prints by local artists, and store clerks blast their favorite music from the speakers. Occasionally, a shopper might hear a Beastie Boys song by one of the original X-LARGE investors—Mike D of the Beastie Boys, who is still a shareholder today.
