Whole Foods markets are becoming almost as ubiquitous as Starbucks in LA, with new stores popping up in new neighborhoods all the time. The newest of the crop (like the one in Westwood near UCLA) have extensive options at the salad bar, in addition to hot food like homemade soups, fried chicken and macaroni and cheese. There's also a sushi station, pizza and hand-carved meats for lunchtime sandwiches. If you're really food-conscious, shopping at Whole Foods allows a certain peace of mind since they sell only perservative-free goods, with a large and varied selection of organics. —Lesley Balla
