Owner Kerry Hite uses her space as a refuge from the superficial, society-imposed standards of beauty. Translation: The typical salon crowd won't be found here.

Best known for her ability to fix over-tweezed eyebrows, Hite also gives mini-facials and delights in teaching clients proper skin care. (Cleanse, exfoliate, moisturize!) Clients get a free cocktail with haircut or coloring. Don't worry, stylists stay away from the sauce while working on you. Also on the salon's menu are chemical peels, massages and manicures with an optional henna tattoo. In the waiting gallery, clients don't find Vogue or other glossies of the same ilk, because Hite feels they propagate unfair standards of beauty. (Seriously.) Viewing options instead include books of the self-help, astrology, Worst Case Scenario and Bad Girls' Guide To... genres, as well as a gallery exhibit that rotates every two months—just enough time to see a new artist with each visit. —Mai Dinh
