These young misses are among those who ooze that unique flair

Some people know exactly what fashions work for them - their outfits are virtually eye candy. When they saunter past, you can't help but do a double-take. These young misses are among those who ooze that unique flair.

BRITT STEWART
Dancer

>Age: 18.
>Residence: Denver, Colo.
>Where spotted: Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art.

How would you describe your style?
Bright accents. Dressy but also a little trendy and also classic. Oh, and with a lot of accessories. I feel weird if I'm not wearing earrings.

Where do you head to find your threads?
I really like Francesca's. They have one in Boulder. They have clothes that are kind of sophisticated, but they go with the trend. They also have fun little gadgets like magnets, keychains. The good ol' Target is good, too.

Who or what inspires the way you dress?
I don't think there's anyone specific. I'll just see something and I'll say, "I want to dress like that!" Sometimes I just look in my closet and pick something to wear.

Are there any current or past trends that really bother you?
Bell-bottoms. Personally, I just never looked good in them.

What's an item in your closet that you can't live without? My slouchy leather black boots that I got from Aldo. They have a rounded toe but still with kind of a point, and they go up knee-high.

ELIZABETH CHITTY

Student
>Age: 19.
>Residence: Boulder, Colo.
>Where spotted: Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art.

How would you describe your style?
Comfortable, classic, Bohemian.

Where do you head to find your threads?
I like to do my own stuff - cutting up, sewing. I reuse stuff and do my own thing. I like things that are really cheap and then adding my own designs.

Who or what inspires the way you dress?
Coming from Colorado, I like the whole California vibe, the kind of laid-back but fun look.

Are there any current or past trends that really bother you?
Pants that are too short - when people wear those high-water pants with heels. They do it on "America's Next Top Model" all the time. I also don't like those strappy heels, the ones that look like prom shoes.

What's an item in your closet that you can't live without?
These high-waisted, wide-leg dark-wash pants. They're really dressy. They have a thick waistband and these really wide legs.

CARMELA GONZALEZ

Fashion student
>Age: 21.
>Residence: Eagle Rock.
>Where spotted: Old Pasadena.

How would you describe your style?
Vintage-contemporary, European. I have a nostalgia for the past.

Where do you head to find your threads?
Japan LA (648 Fuller Road, Los Angeles, (323) 934-5201), the Goodwill and Bazaar Adriatic (www.bazaaradriatic.com). I'm studying menswear, so I always read magazines to find out about menswear. Menswear is so texture-oriented.

As a fashion student, what couture designers do you admire?
Armani Exchange, Chanel ... Gianni Versace had an incredible way of making sure things looked so good on a person.

Who or what inspires the way you dress?
It comes from within. It comes from the years I've gathered interpreting things. That's what fashion is - a watermark of who you are.

Are there any current or past trends that really bother you?
Shoulder pads. I'm a petite, so cargo pants don't really flatter my figure.
