Known for his retro pottery and modern-chic home furnishings line, Jonathan Adler is also known as the humorous judge on Bravo's interior design reality show "Top Design." Since the show is filmed in LA, we asked the New Yorker about his favorite local haunts for fashion, design inspiration and indulging in the latest food craze. —Enid Portuguez

1.

A line in your manifesto reads, “We believe in being underdressed or overdressed always.” Where in LA do you shop for that underdressed look?

I'm a Barneys CO-OP kind of guy—j'adore Trovata and Penguin. And I've never said no to a dollop of Paul Smith.

2.

Where do you shop for that overdressed look?

Again, Barneys. A little Thom Browne, some Prada, a dash of Etro, et voila—an overdressed me!

3.

Where is your favorite place to hang on the weekends?

When I'm in LA and I have a weekend off, I always head out to [my hotel,] the Parker Palm Springs.

5.

Which hotel do you usually stay at when you're in LA?

I usually stay at L'Ermitage because it's super low-key and easy. I love the Chateau, but it's a whole palaver to park and deal. At L'Ermitage, I can pull up and be in my room in about one minute.

6.

You have $500 to redecorate your apartment. Where would you go for deals?

Duh, I'd go to my store on Melrose! We ain't that expensive, for reals.
