Already known for co-owning Resurrection, the vintage heaven with LA and New York outposts, Katy Rodriguez is breaking out on her own as a designer. Her signature silk dresses have caught the eye of fashion mavens like Sarah Jessica Parker, Liv Tyler and Chloe Sevigny, and the collection is about to get bigger. The San Francisco-via-New York native tells us where she spends her money in LA, and the favorite spot introduced to her by her boyfriend. Enid Portuguez

What's your secret shopping indulgence and where do you go for your fix?Because I'm surrounded by clothes so much, I've grown to like buying other things like art. I have a friend, Michael Weisberg, that's a private art dealer that that comes away with most of our money. He hunts for things when he finds out what you like.
2.
Where do you go when you feel like dressing up in one of your dresses? My friend Brian Rabin throws a lot of parties at the Chateau Marmont and other places. I like to dress up when I go to those.
3.
What's your favorite designer that you carry at Resurrection?I'm a really big Yves Saint Laurent fan. I'm always excited to get new pieces. He designed for so long so there's a lot of diversity. He encompasses so many different parts of life.
4.
What's your favorite watering hole? The Mermaid in Hermosa Beach. It's a really old bar right on the strand. I'm not an LA native but in my experience, there aren't a lot of places left like that.
5.
Where do you think is the most fashionable area in LA?I really like Melrose Place because it reminds me of New York; it's like a little SoHo. It's the prettiest little street in LA, and being from walking cities, I also like that you can walk from store to store.
6.
Why did you choose to open Resurrection on Melrose Avenue?Fred Segal was down the street so I felt our customers who were coming from New York would shop here. It seemed like a good, central place.
7.
What's your favorite restaurant?I really like to go to Nanbankan in West LA. It's this really cool Japanese yakatori restaurant. I've been going for five or six years; they have the best beef kabobs.
8.
LA's such a workout-obsessed city. Where do you go to sweat it out?I have an Equinox membership, but one of my favorite things is to go to Franklin Canyon Park. It's the most beautiful park in LA. It's really lush and green, with great trails. I have dogs and I love to walk them there with my business partner. I'd rather go there than the gym.
9.
Your boyfriend Tony Alva is an LA skateboarding legend. Has he taken you to any of his old haunts?I've been very fortunate coming from New York to have a boyfriend that was born and raised here. Our favorite Mexican restaurant is Gilbert's on Pico. He went to high school with the owners so he's been going since he's been in school. They make good margaritas and it's a homey, super-friendly environment.
