When beauty fanatics come together, don’t expect appetizers on the servers’ passed trays. No, those are bath and body goodies, not finger foods.

Such delights pleased the many women —and a few men —who attended the recent beauty sample sale at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre. Sponsored by the Chicago-based PrettyCity.com with Shape magazine, the first-of-its-kind event featured makeovers, hairstyling, skincare and the opportunity to try specialized treatments such as eyelash extensions.

A mix of local and national companies set up booths to educate guests about their products and services. The Jane Iredale mineral makeup counter was a popular destination, attracting a long line of ladies waiting patiently for a spring color makeover.

Lines were just as long at the cocktail bar, which served complementary “2Pretty” martinis and other drinks in the event’s pink theme. A table of mini-cupcakes and pink candy offered more taste treats.

Fortified from the sugary liquid courage, guests experimented at the eyelash station, learning the how-tos of applying falsies. Others braved the aesthetician’s magnifying mirror for an analysis of their skin condition.       

Annie Krikorian thought it was all good. The Calabasas resident was toting two large gift bags, one for her sister who didn’t make it. “This is a nice forum to try different things,” she said. “You get a good overview and the chance to discover new products. It was worth the drive.”

The L.A. event was the last of five beauty samples sales PrettyCity.com held in Chicago, New York, Atlanta and Orlando beginning last fall. Organizers are planning another series of special events beginning on the East Coast this fall. —Andrea Adleman
