Rescue has the potential to be too hip. It’s not. Yes, it sells skull-covered accessories. Yes, it sells skinny jeans. But what saves Rescue—or should we say, rescues Rescue—is its unpretentious atmosphere.

The staff greets you with a flirty smile. There is un-metered street parking, itself an anomaly. And you can snatch up scented candles, in precious mason jars no less, made locally in Glendale. Too home spun? Just wait. New Orleans-native Jesse Lirette, who also owns the dog grooming salon, LA Doggie Style in back, deals in hard to get New York brands like Klurk and In God We Trust. The latter is a severe story in denim, while the former, Hong-Kong inspired Klurk, designs an almost-formal men's wear line exclusively for Rescue. Not to leave the ladies out, Rescue houses a range of women's wear including ultra-cool brands Cheap Monday and Morphine Generation. Tying it all together is the apropos collection of unpublished photos by London paparazzo Alan Chapman. Not your run-of-the-mill boutique ambiance, each original shot lovingly depicts any number of our favorite train wrecks including Kate, Britney and Amy.
