Small in comparison to other overflowing home décor shops on the block, Rose nonetheless trumps most neighbors with its meticulously curated selection of extraordinary objects.

Each oddity is accompanied with a museum-like rectangle caption that reads logically and confusingly at the same time: "1940s dance hall motorized revolving mirrored ball" and "vintage pair of underground cockfighting goggles from Argentina" are some examples. As seen in his eclectic antique choices, owner and accessory designer Mark Rose is a self-professed fan of National Geographic; his modern-day items are just as compelling. There wasn't a thing we didn't want to buy from Kathleen Walsh's Walteria Living collection, including plates printed with Rorschach-esque inkblots and a milky white porcelain nightlight of a Chihuahua wearing a cone around its neck. The eerie-romantic jewelry by Jemima Rogers included dried rosebuds suspended in clear resin orbs and an iridescent beetle on a belt tied by a black satin ribbon. Artist Eric Nash painted the gold-toothed skull on the floor and his skull ink drawings.— Rhea Cortado
