Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but sapphires, peridot and moonstone aren't so bad either.

Unique gem combinations are Suzanne Felsen's specialty. From aquamarine and tourmaline to beryl and amethyst, there are few types the native Angeleno hasn't worked with. Her creative mix-and-match philosophy results in colorful, eyecatching baubles for wear day to night. Her Melrose store, a 1920s house converted into a modern space with lines as clean as the jewelry cuts, is also fetching. Look up to find an impressive installation of 70,000 linen ribbons hand-tied to the ceiling; look around for pieces appropriate for any occasion among Felsen's rich collection of necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings set in white gold, platinum or silver. Traditionalists fear not—she carries diamonds too. While the women coo, bored sugar daddies can treat themselves to her modern cufflinks and men's rings. Felsen also keeps a shop at Bergamot Station, and it's no wonder her pieces are artistic in nature; her parents own and operate art-publishing atelier Gemini G.E.L. across Melrose. —Enid Portuguez
