Located in the heart of Chinatown Central Plaza, Welcome Hunters is an off-the-beaten-track boutique full of off-beat local and European designs.

The first designer boutique to crop up among the bourgeoning Chinatown art galleries, Welcome Hunters is a bit like a gallery itself. The polished concrete floors and high ceilings in the loft-like space showcase dresses, jeans, T-shirts, shoes and accessories for men and women by edgy hard-to-find European labels like British-based Kokon To Zai, Jenny Hellstrom from Stockholm, and Best Behavior from Denmark. Items are carefully selected and are often years ahead of the U.S. trends—the Best Behavior jersey necklace we saw (essentially a looped, shredded T-shirt that hangs over the chest, almost resembling a bunch of coiled electrical cords) was a little too Beyond Thunderdome for us, but very cool just the same. Uniqueness is key as Welcome Hunters often orders only one size per color, meaning if two extra-smalls are stalking the same piece, things could get pretty savage. This can be avoided altogether, however, with a trip to the website, where most of what's carried in the store can be snapped up with the click of a mouse.—Lyndsey Saul
