This 1939 hotel, once owned by silent-film star Lillian Gish, was brought back to life in 2000 with designer Kelly Wearstler's quirky, grand style.

Maison 140 is owned by the Kor Hotel Group, which also runs the Viceroys in Santa Monica and Palm Springs (both designed by Wearstler) and various other boutique hotels in LA. The Mandarin-meets-French decor makes this one of the most eye-popping places to stay in Bev Hills, and its dimunitive Bar Noir off the lobby attracts Industry professionals and fashionistas. Forty-three individually decorated guest rooms have custom furniture, original artwork, Italian designer linens, down comforters, CD players and DVD players. Its location is close to the talent agencies, Rodeo Drive shopping and gourmet restaurants, yet it retains an out-of-the-way feel. —Lesley Balla
