The Fairmont Miramar Hotel

A private, historic hotel atop oceanfront bluffs, and the gateway to relaxation

Open since 1921, this classic hotel sits across from Palisades Park, perched above Santa Monica State Beach, two blocks from Third Street Promenade. But if you're looking for a quiet getaway after the holidays, their "Electronic Rehab Weekend" can help.

Rooms in the main building get fancier with each level ascended in the elevator. The Fairmont rooms (floors one through six of the Palisades wing, and two through three of the Ocean Tower) don't have an ocean view, but some do have a private balcony. The Deluxe rooms (floors four through seven in the Ocean Tower) have views of the ocean and gardens, and the Deluxe Ocean View rooms (floors eight through 10 in the Ocean Tower) have unobstructed views for all those who escape the clutches of the Mascioni linens and overstuffed comforter. Downstairs, businessmen congregate for a drink at Koi Pond Lounge, while guests with more time order California cuisine at The Grille. All but seven of the 32 secluded, just-renovated garden bungalows have French doors that open onto private patios. The beautifully landscaped grounds include tropical flowers, waterfalls, palm trees and a koi pond. It's the pond that's serviced all summer by the mojito cart; flavors muddled tableside include raspberry, apple, blackberry, watermelon and more. Shopping sprees to the nearby Macy's, whether mojito-fueled or not, can be assisted with an 11-percent-off "Welcome Savings Pass" from the front desk.

If work this week was crazier than ever and you'd just like to be left alone, the hotel can take away all your electronics upon check-in—yes, even the iPod; yes, even the cell phone—and send you to your room, where herbal teas and a book of relaxation tips await. The "Electronic Rehab Weekend" package includes a pass to a yoga class and a session in a sauna.
