This small hotel, a former apartment building that hosts movie stars looking for quiet, is hiding a fanstastic rooftop cabana scene behind its unassuming facade.

This small hotel has plenty of charm, but the highlight is undoubtedly the rooftop deck. It has a pool, hot tub and vertigo-inducing tennis court, but the best part is the row of cabanas, each equipped with a direct line to the fabulous hotel restaurant, Knoll. Nobody seems to take advantage of this alfresco opportunity, but its a lovely place to absorb the bright lights of the Pacific Design Center while eating some transcendent flourless chocolate cake (start with the lamb chops or the blue fin ahi tuna). Over the wall to the north is the Sunset Strip: The hotel is just close enough to make out all the lights, but just far enough to be removed from the noise. Old-school Hollywood movers and shakers take advantage of the large guest rooms with kitchenettes. Le Parc Suites is upgrading its rooms, all studios and one-bedroom suites, with plasma-screen TVs, DVD players and stereos. Melrose Place, The Grove, and Beverly Center are all nearby. —Katherine Spiers
