Hotel Villa delle Stelle

A four-room oasis in the heart of Hollywood

With only four luxurious suites in this tucked-away building in Hollywood, Hotel Villa delle Stelle (Palace of the Stars) has a staff with the time, and inclination, to treat every guest like a movie star. The perfectly appointed rooms are also star-quality.

Housed in a small building originally built for actors working at Sunset Gower Studios (which at the time was Columbia), the three suites and one backyard bungalow are essentially all-inclusive. Wine, baguettes and cheese greet guests in their room upon arrival. The downstairs suite has an English theme, with memorabilia from Dudley Moore, the ex-husband of Villa delle Stelle's owner. This, along with the other rooms (such as our favorite, the Art Deco/Humphrey Bogart), is stunningly, perfectly appointed. All have period antiques, full kitchens, remodeled bathrooms and lovely touches like tiny light fixtures under flower-filled vases (hello, setting the mood). The building itself is in an unlikely location around the corner from a less-glamorous stretch of Sunset Boulevard, but the quiet street has historical cred aplenty: Every house on the block is an official historic landmark. It's also walking distance to a Metro subway stop, but guests needn't walk anywhere. The mission of the owner is to make all guests feel like stars, so limos can be arranged, as can just about any service. Of course, just being in one of the guest rooms can make someone feel like a star. —Katherine Spiers
