Perhaps you’d think that with all the skinny people wandering around LA, we aren’t big on eating. But you’d think wrong. As with everything else, Angelenos love to indulge in the culinary arts, from four-star restaurants to stalls at the Farmer’s Market. Visitors to LA who want to join in the fun should rest at the following foodie-friendly hotels. —Katherine Spiers

1.

Le Parc Suites

Le Parc’s in-house restaurant is delicious, homey and woefully unknown. Don’t let all those perfect lamb chops go to waste, and be sure to visit the rooftop for an aperitif. Outside the hotel, check out low-key West Hollywood neighborhood favorites like Vito’s.

2.

Sofitel Los Angeles

Simon, Sofitel’s restaurant, has a semi-celebrity chef and famously playful desserts. The hotel is also near La Cienega Boulevard’s Restaurant Row, home to celeb-choked classics (Koi), finery-filled masterpieces (Sona) and next-generation trendoids (Republic).

3.

Sunset Marquis Hotel and Villas

Looking for a smaller hotel? Sunset Marquis is a boutique property also within reach of Restaurant Row. Pick up a little something from Boule for dessert.

4.

Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel

This classic hotel near the historic Chinese Theatre is currently home to two well-regarded restaurants, Dakota (fine dining) and 25 Degrees (fancy burgers). Eat there one night and at Lucky Devils the next for the ultimate cheeseburger showdown.

5.

Millennium Biltmore Hotel

The hotel’s restaurant, Sai Sai, is well regarded for its Asian fusion, and the hotel’s Downtown location puts it in close range of popular restaurants such as Blue Velvet that are popping up in unlikely locations.

6.

Farmer's Daughter

It’s a down-home hotel near down-home food: The area is home to kitschy favorites like Canters and the bountiful Farmer’s Market. But nearby there are also well-regarded Beverly Boulevard restaurants like Grace and Hatfield's.

7.

The Orlando Hotel

First, check out all the many crowded brunch spots on Third Street like Doughboys, Toast and Joan’s. Then, back to the hotel for a nap. Finally, dinner at La Terza, the hotel’s underrated and pitch-perfect Italian restaurant.

8.

Artists' Inn

Right in the heart of South Pasadena, this B&B is walking distance to half a dozen cute little bistros. It’s also just a hop, skip, and half a jump from San Gabriel’s famous Chinese restaurants.

9.

Hilton Checkers Los Angeles

Looking for Zagat- and Gourmet-approved? Checkers can deliver on that. But it also puts guests near Chinatown and Little Tokyo, where locals go for late-night feasts of seafood or ramen, respectively.

10.

Hotel Casa del Mar

You might have a to walk a little farther to find all of Santa Monica’s best eateries, but this hotel, with its esteemed new restaurant Catch and popular afternoon tea service, is a good place to start. Other beachtown musts are Josie, Father’s Office, Melisse and Bay Cities.

I don't know what everyone is talking about, the search function works fine

This website is not good. It is very confusing and not helpful whatsoever.

haha, great. I came here (via the LB press telegram) expecting a great site for restaurant reviews. instead, I find confusing nothingness and a lot of complaints. awesome.

This site sucks!! I agree you can't find anything anymore!!

THis site is totally useless!!! I used to be able to search by neighborhood for restaurants and now I can't find anything!!!

Posted 08/13/07 08:22PM PDT by

I agree with eveyrone who's confused by the new site...it used to be my favorite site to find my boss new places to go for dinner, and now I can't seem to find anything! Please consider replacing the search by neighborhood function, it was priceless!

What happen to Long Beach area restaurants. THIS SUCKS. Long Beach Telegram made a huge mistake by using this site now.

Posted 08/11/07 08:12AM PDT by Mike

hey, where'd the restaurant listings by neighborhood go??! That was the best feature of this site.

Posted 08/10/07 02:04PM PDT by bridget

I used to swear by this site. I loved that I could pick a restaurant by area. Now I have to find another site to find my restaurants. Bummer!

Relied on Larry Lipson's insigtful reviews to guide me in finding good dining. What happened? New format is most disappointing.

Posted 08/09/07 02:03PM PDT by Joe Ramirez

Why can't you search for restaurants anymore?!! I could care less what the editor thinks is amazing- I used to rely on this site as a glossary of restaurants in the LA area and now it seems useless.

I searched for Santa Monica Restaurants and got a bunch of hotels. This is rubbish. What happened?? Any respone la.com?

Posted 08/01/07 07:21PM PDT by James

There used to be a way to search in those different catagories... It's why I used this site! Now this is useless. I won't be coming back.

Posted 07/26/07 01:57PM PDT by Ana

This sucks - you can't search for restaurants anymore. This is no good at all. I used to come to the site all the time, but there is no use now.

Posted 07/25/07 09:50PM PDT by Christina

well I used to like your site, but now there is no way to search for restaurants. Too bad, I won't be coming back as it's a waste of my time to have to sort through whatever you're advertising.

Great website! Is there a way to sort restaurants by type and location? (IE: Greek, downtown or Breakfast, Fairfax District, etc.) Thanks, Amanda
