From the outside the Figueroa Hotel looks like just another old Downtown building. Once inside, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a troupe of belly dancers mingling with the international crowd in the bar.

Though this hotel usually flies under the radar, international tourists make a beeline for this stylish, small-ish hotel parked between Staples Center and The Original Pantry Cafe. The lobby’s high ceiling and the bar's daybed establish a theme maintained in the simple guest rooms, with wrought-iron beds covered in linen bedspreads. Every effort has been made to keep things old-fashioned: The vending machine in the basement is even hidden behind a tapestry. Event rooms are popular locations for atmospheric parties (we weren’t surprised to find out that Cirque du Soleil has hosted events here), and for extra kitsch, some parties have even hired Noah the camel to mingle with the guests. Those looking for a more low-key evening will love the Terrace Bar, an indoor/outdoor space with tiles, carved furniture, pool, and an atmosphere that somehow makes the bright lights of Staples Center seem romantic.
