Hello? Is this Jimmy Kimmel? Hey, W Hollywood Residencies here. Me and my friends at Fighting thought it would fun to fuck with the LA traffic patterns this week. You in? I heart Dave Gahan. Wanna make a concert?
LA.com would like to thank the Bush administration for the loosey-goosey wire tap laws which made it possible for us to obtain the above conversation. So that's how it happened folks that Depeche Mode shut down the surrounding area of Hollywood and Vine last night during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
People are in fact people, and more than 13,000 of them packed into a few block radius to see Dave and company sing a few ditties. Others tried an exciting aerial approach by pouring out of the Pantages windows or climbing onto neighboring awnings.
The sound mix was questionable with muddy vocals and bursts of choppy instrumentation. The tush wiggle was superb with prancing and vogueing in full effect. And the 45 minute set included mostly fan faves with a few newbies off of Sounds of the Universe, their 12th studio release out now on EMI.
The Mounties also made an appearance to clear a near-riot that broke out when a fenced view was dickishly obstructed by a big green blocker. Otherwise, shenanigans were to a minimum and the only reported arrests were made for selling bogus merch.
Celebrity sightings (via other peoples eyes) abounded with the likes of Chris Martin, Christina Applegate, Jared Leto, Danny Lohner (NIN), and Elisha Cuthbert.
